Reference files allow you to provide additional documents that Lexlegis.ai can use as context while generating a draft. These files help the AI understand supporting information, previous documents, or relevant material that should influence the draft.
Note:
Selecting reference files is available under the Advanced drafting options. In Basic mode, only the required fields are displayed. Switch to Advanced mode to access optional inputs such as reference files, templates, and clauses.
1. Where to Find This Option
In the Draft workflow, go to: Advanced Option -> Select reference file(s) if any
This section allows you to:
- Search your Library
- Select one or more documents
- Upload a new file if required
Note:
The position of the "Select reference file(s) if any" step depends on the drafting type:
• Reactive Drafting – Step 3
• Proactive Drafting – Step 2
2. How to Select a Reference File
- Click on Step 2: Select reference file(s) if any
- Use the Search bar to find a document in your Library
- Select the file(s) you want to include
If no documents are available, the section will display No Items Found.
3. Uploading a New Reference File
If the file you want to use is not already available, you can upload a file directly from the Draft workflow.
From this screen, you can:
- Upload one or more reference files
- Select an existing folder to store them
- Add tags for easier reuse and organisation
Once uploaded, the files becomes immediately available for selection in the current draft.
Important:
- You can upload files only into existing folders from this step
- Creating, renaming, or reorganising folders must be done from the Library
This allows you to continue drafting without leaving the workflow, while keeping file structure centrally managed.
4. What You Should Specify
When selecting reference files, clearly mention what should be referred to in those documents. For example:
- Specific clauses
- Important dates
- Financial figures
- Background facts
- Prior correspondence
Providing clarity improves drafting accuracy.
5. When to Use Reference Files
Use reference files when:
- You are responding to a notice but need supporting agreements
- You are drafting based on earlier contracts
- You want the draft to rely on specific evidence
- Multiple documents must be considered together
If your draft does not depend on additional material, you may skip this step.
